This report by Gordon Mitchell, commissioned by the President’s Education Initiative, Department of Education, in 1998, identified nine schools in the Northern Cape that exemplified best practice in whole school development and assessed their managerial competence.
Postal surveys of 68 schools in the Northern Cape were conducted to assess which managerial competencies were most necessary, according to a variety of stakeholders. The report studied several of the schools to identify their most significant challenges and opportunities for improvement.
Managerial competency was identified as a vital contributor towards whole school development and quality education. The research objective was to formulate a competency profile for change management based on a role analysis of school management teams.
