Santam, South Africa’s leading general insurer, is dedicated to building a safer, more resilient South Africa by working with vulnerable communities. It supports social resilience through risk awareness and management, and skills and community development. Social responsibility is strategically aligned with Santam’s ambition to positively impact the economy and create a well-functioning, sustainable society.
Santam is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and prioritises risk management and safety, skills development and climate-resilient development. Company initiatives include risk management in special-needs schools, consumer financial education (CFE), various employee volunteerism programmes (EVP) and various community development projects.
Santam also aims to close the risk protection gap. Its programmes, including its flagship programme Partnership for Risk and Resilience (P4RR), are designed around shared value. P4RR was established in 2012 when the South African government asked the corporate sector to support critical skills development and capacity within municipalities. To effectively implement P4RR, Santam adopted a collaborative approach based on partnerships with selected district municipalities.
P4RR’s key focus areas are largely aligned with the Key Performance Areas and Enablers of South Africa’s National Disaster Risk Management Framework. P4RR helps to build the capacity and capability of selected municipalities and partners to proactively manage disaster risks.
