Every municipality in South Africa is required to draw up an Integrated Development Plan every five years. This is a master plan that focuses on making economic and social improvement within that specific area. It includes a framework for local land use, environment protection, and improvements to infrastructure and services.
The integrated development plan should involve all stakeholders including residents, other government departments, schools, churches, and businesses operating in the area. The general objective of the plan is to create an enabling environment for the people living in the area. All capacity building initiatives should work closely with the Integrated Development Plan.
