As part of Anglo American’s Sustainability Strategy, the AASA Education Programme was launched in 2018. The programme focuses on early childhood learning and a whole school development (WSD) approach.
The programme aims to make a significant positive impact on educational outcomes of children in more than 100 early childhood development (ECD) sites, 70 primary schools and 30 secondary schools local to Anglo American operations in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the Northern Cape. The programme was launched in collaboration with JET Education Services and the Department of Basic Education.
The second phase of the project was rolled out in 2022, supporting 84 schools and around 80 ECDs in Limpopo, the Northern Cape, and the North West over five years. This phase of the project provided school gardens, career guidance, and pupil support beyond matric.
