Stellenbosch & District Family Service (StellCARE; previously Child Welfare Stellenbosch) was established in 1916 and is a registered, non-profit district family protection organisation. Its primary aim is to care for, protect and empower vulnerable children. Its flagship project, Eye-on-the-Child/Siyakhathala, was established in 1997. It secures effective child protection services, helps to build resilient families, and provides skills training to women, unemployed youth and other individuals within the communities it serves. It was recently extended due to an increase in cases of child neglect, violence, and child murders. Children and other vulnerable groups are identified early and protection is extended to them and their families, with volunteers working 27/7 to assist trauma victims. Children not going to school are also identified, assessed and supported by volunteers.
