Maharishi International University (MIU)

MIU is a non-profit educational hub that offers consciousness-based education, a uniquely effective approach to learning that leads to personal and career success. Access is provided to an internationally recognised four-year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management through distance education by Maharishi University of Management, in the United States.

MIU fosters a low-stress, mutually supportive environment that makes studying enjoyable and effective. It ensures every youth beneficiary, in addition to their financial benefits, is given a holistic set of support services. These include career development, work experience, full-time job placement, management and leadership training, mentoring and job coaching, nutritional support, infrastructure access, self-development, soft skills development, educational and vocational access.

The Maharishi Institute was founded in 2007 to make tertiary education accessible to all by providing support to students wishing to access education through accredited educational partners.  This is done through a unique ‘self-funding’ education model, which won a Global Education Award in 2010 for innovation. The focus of the model is to combine university education, vocational industry training, and employment all in one facility, and to unite these in a way that moves from charity to sustainable social enterprise. Students (including refugees) come from 11 African countries, and there is a slightly higher percentage of women than men.

We measure impact by the number of students who are employed at the end of the programme. To date, 95% of the 18 500 MI graduates have been placed in jobs.
