Inyathelo’s mission is to build a strong, stable civil society in South Africa by contributing to the development of sustainable organisations and institutions. It does this through the capacity of higher education institutions and non-profit sectors to grant-seek and grant-make in South Africa and on the African continent. It works to increase corporate and individual social giving through promoting dialogue, sharing information, and providing support services to facilitate philanthropic ventures with lasting impact.
Inyathelo’s flagship project, established in 2002, is capacity building based on its model of advancement, which is part of an integrated approach that involves engaging the external environment and positioning an organisation to attract support. The model provides a multifaceted approach to sustainability focusing on leadership, governance, strategy and planning, financial management, fundraising, human capacity, relationship-building, monitoring and evaluation, voice and visibility.
