Focus on iThemba

Located on the iThemba Campus in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, Focus on iThemba is an accredited non-profit, public benefit (18a) organization which is driven by a vision to ‘grow hearts and minds’. Rooted in the belief that every child has potential, they invest in quality education to bring about positive change. Their two main pillars are the iThemba Educare Programme and the iThemba Scholars Programme. The former seeks to facilitate quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) and care to ten partnering pre-schools in the Valley of a 1000 Hills. The latter awards donor-funded scholarships to deserving children from ECD centres in the area, allowing them to attend Waterfalls Schools on the iThemba Campus.

iThemba Educare Programme
The programme partners with ten preschools in the Valley of 1000 Hills to facilitate quality ECD and care to more than 650 children between the ages of 0-5 (the most fundamental years for crucial brain development). They partner with education and nutrition experts and are supported by the knowledge and expertise of a full-time ECD monitor who ensures that the preschools receive the right support, on-going mentorship, and that core educational principles and disciplines are being instilled.

iThemba Scholars Programme
This donor-funded programme currently accommodates 12 scholars from grades 000-6, with the aim of supporting their educational journeys right up to grade 12. The goal is to have 30 learners in the programme (two per grade). Waterfall Schools – encompassing Waterfall Pre-Primary, Waterfall Preparatory and Waterfall College – are members of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa (ISASA) and offer quality, affordable education that promotes the holistic growth and development of children.
