Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation

The Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation is an independent public benefit organisation that has earned a reputation as a leader in education and enterprise development. Through its effective development models, in which it has invested for more than 15 years, it has empowered a great many beneficiaries, including school learners, teachers, principals, tertiary students, and entrepreneurs. It also supports vulnerable women and children in the school communities in which it works.

The overarching aim of the Foundation is to create a more inclusive society. It is a catalyst of change and a  partner of choice in development.

Its holistic programmes, implemented through its partner entities the Adopt-a-School Foundation, KST, the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust and Black Umbrellas, are developed from pilot projects that are transformed into sustainable cost-effective programmes that can be shared and replicated. All programmes are aligned with global and national development objectives.

  • Adopt-a-School implements a Whole School Development model that aims to improve the governance, academic, infrastructural, social and security environment in schools. It also implements the foundation’s Thari programme, which addresses the impact of social issues like violence and abuse on learners and learning outcomes.

  • KST, which is a collaboration between Kagiso Trust and Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, leverages the strategic, technical and best practices of Whole School Development programmes.

  • The Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust provides bursaries for tertiary study and holistic support for disadvantaged students, as well as essential work experience opportunities.

  • Black Umbrellas develops small black-owned businesses through a nationwide incubation programme, promoting entrepreneurship as a desirable economic path and nurturing 100% black-owned businesses in the critical first three years of their existence.

Since inception, more than one million learners, students and emergent entrepreneurs have participated in and benefited from the programmes of the Foundation.
