CAFSA is a philanthropy and civil society infrastructure organisation that exists primarily to grow philanthropic and charitable giving in southern Africa and around the world. It aims to challenge existing social, economic, and political inequalities by increasing resource flows to civil society organisations working in poor and marginalised communities. Among other things, it advocates for an enabling environment for philanthropy and the work of civil society organisations and builds their governance, leadership and resource mobilisation capacity through convening, training, and knowledge development. It also campaigns for indigenous philanthropy development across all sectors of South African society.
As an intermediary, it operates at the intersection between philanthropy and civil society, serving both corporate and non-profit clients. Its offerings include fund management, give-as-you-earn/payroll giving, employee volunteering, programme management, CSI fund management, customised research, cross-border giving, knowledge management, content management and dissemination of local and international research, as well as non-profit organisation validations and due diligence.
