The OECD Centre on Philanthropy carried out this study in collaboration with the Independent Philanthropy Association of South Africa (IPASA). It is part of the Centre’s research into five emerging economies (Colombia, India, Nigeria, the People’s Republic of China and South Africa). These studies shed light on domestic philanthropy’s contribution to development and suggest recommendations to address critical issues outlined in Agenda 2030. This report analyzes domestic philanthropic giving for development and gender equality in South Africa, building on grant-level data and insights collected through an OECD survey deployed among 31 large philanthropic organisations in South Africa. https://www.oecd.org/development/philanthropy-centre/researchprojects/countrystudies/OECD_CoP_DomesticPhilanthropySouthAfrica.pdf

It also offers an open data dashboard, which helps to navigate the project-level dataset on the domestic philanthropic funding in South Africa assembled for the report: https://oecd-main.shinyapps.io/philanthropy_southafrica/
