The 2019 survey was conducted by EduActive Solutions Ltd on behalf of Inyathelo: The South African Institute for Advancement with financial support from the Kresge Foundation. The report is the sixth of its kind, following inception in 2014.

Key findings from the latest survey include:

  • Corporates contributed 30% of philanthropic income in 2018, compared to 14% in 2013.
  • Individual donors increased funding from 4% in 2013 to 8% in 2018.
  • The largest proportion of philanthropic income came from trusts and foundations, which contributed 48%.
