The P.E.A.C.E. Foundation
In the understanding that development means the development of people, it is our objective to provide disadvantaged communities with the necessary tools and access to information to bring about their own development, and, in doing so, improve educational and economic standards in their communities.
The P.E.A.C.E. Foundation was established in 1993, as a Trust (Reg. No. 2114/94), with Income Tax exemption for donors (PBO number, 930014634). The Foundation is also a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO number, 021-948) and an accredited recipient for Corporate Social Investment and Enterprise Development in terms of the BBBEE Scorecard requirements.
Based on 30 years of experience in rural development, the P.E.A.C.E. Foundation has developed a solution, known as the P.E.A.C.E. Model, that serves as a mechanism for poverty alleviation in rural communities, through Local Economic Development (LED).
The Director of the Foundation was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship in 2009, this was based on the development of the P.E.A.C.E. Model, which has been evaluated as being an original, sustainable and replicable model for the alleviation of rural poverty.
The P.E.A.C.E. Foundation has been given an opportunity to participate in a very innovative approach to the protection of the environment as well as the protection of animal species, in particular elephant and rhino. Known as ERP (Elephants, Rhinos and People) this approach recognizes the importance of the role of local communities, and the eradication of endemic poverty, for the successful protection of these endangered animals.
