The Lunchbox Fund
Transforming a child's education, one meal at a time
At Lunchbox Fund, we are passionate about education, and believe every child has the right to learn and grow, no matter their circumstances. Our approach is rooted in the understanding that hunger is a formidable barrier to education and that children with empty stomachs are unable to concentrate and learn. Without education their ability to access employment in their future is severely compromised, reinforcing the cycle of poverty.
Since 2005, the Lunchbox Fund has responded to the education crisis faced by millions of children in South Africa by offering targeted nutrition in school and pre-school settings. Our meals offer a behavioural incentive for children to attend school, and enable them to concentrate and learn while there. We work in urban, township and rural areas across South Africa, helping children get the education they desperately need to build a life free of poverty for themselves and their families.
Lunchbox Fund currently feeds 100,000 food-insecure children each school day nationwide. Since inception, we have provided meals to over 407,000 hungry children across South Africa. Attendance at our programme partner schools, playgroups and pre-schools has increased 30% and education levels have materially improved.
The Lunchbox Fund is a national charity supplying turnkey nutrition solutions as a foundation to learning, across all geographies, educational settings and in all provinces, in South Africa.
