Founded in 1881, the NID-National Institute for the Deaf, is a registered NPC with NPO and PBO status. Our vision is to develop the full potential of every person with hearing loss, and we offer and deliver a diverse range of services to improve the lives of deaf persons and persons with hearing loss. We have been dedicated to the wellbeing of the Deaf community for well over a century. We care deeply for the Deaf and persons with hearing loss and are passionately driven to ensure that the Deaf get the same opportunities in life as anyone else. Our programmes and services include:
- Care for Deaf Adults with Multiple Disabilities - a unit for the development and care of Deaf adults with multiple disabilities.
- Deaf Elderly Care – an old age home in Worcester creates an environment where communication and socialising are comfortable and safety
paramount. - NID Sign Language Centre - providing deaf-accessible products, SA Sign Language dictionary, SA Sign Language material, accessible information communication, SA Sign Language Training.
