Kids Haven

Kids Haven is here to protect and care for children in crisis and to support families and communities to be safe and caring spaces for children and young people. We want young adults to be included in the economy and be positively contributing citizens.

Kids Haven is situated in Benoni and works primarily in central Ekurhuleni, with some support for East and Southern Ekurhuleni.

Started in 1992 to provide a safe home to street children, Kids Haven now provides an holistic service of child protection and care to families, communities, young people, and children in crisis.  Kids Haven implements a 3-pillar of care model:

1. Precare (Prevention Care) to empower families and communities to protect and care for their own children, including providing safe spaces for children.  There are five programs - The free Kids Haven Preschool, Teen Hub afterschool drop in centre, food gardens, and empowerment workshops on parenting and GBV.  Precare shares resources with families in need.
2. Incare offering full service residential care and protection to 172 children and young people in crisis.  This includes abandoned, abused, neglected children and those with challenging behavior or who live and work on the streets.
3. Aftercare continues care and support to children who are reunified to their families.  The YOUTH HUB provides focused skills development to young people in order to get them working and remaining in work.

Kids Therapy provides specialized therapy to anyone in need while Kids Justice supports children and adults to secure their right to a name and a nationality.
